Jim Johnstone joined Westbrook,
Conn.-based Gowrie Group of Companies as a producer in the boat/yacht
department.
Johnstone brings extensive marine
and sailing industry expertise that will
enable the firm to broaden its reach
into the boating market and the Rhode
Island community served by Gowrie’s
Newport office, according to the
marine insurer.
For the last 14 years, Johnstone has
been a sales manager and production
manager for sailboat builder J/Boats. He
won the Laser Radial World Championships at age 18, and has won several
championships within the J/Boat classes.
Johnstone lives in Barrington, R.I.,
with his wife and three children.

Honda Marine of Alpharetta, Ga.,
appointed Wes Paul district sales manager and account integrity analyst.
A five-year industry veteran, Paul assumes responsibility for Honda outboard sales in the central United States,
including the Midwest. He also oversees
internal dealer account integrity. Paul
comes to Honda from Mercury Marine,
where he was district account manager
for several Southeastern states.
Hellier Yacht Sales of New London,
Conn., appointed Mark McLeod
executive vice president and general manager.
McLeod brings more than 12 years of
experience in sales, marketing and
management in the sailboat industry as
a broker and manager at Connecticut
boat dealerships. Hellier says McLeod’s
most recent managerial experience in
the motorcycle industry provides him
with a new perspective that will play a
pivotal role as the company expands
into fractional yachting and concierge
service programs.
Rick Dieterich will assume the role
of vice president of sales. He has been
with Hellier as a broker and manager
for almost five years, and has led the
group to the top position in new sailboat sales for Island Packet in Connecticut and the Northeast. He also helped
Hellier become the first NMMA-certi-fied dealership in the U.S. In addition
to Dieterich’s experience in the marine
and auto industries, he also served as a
Navy submariner.

for years and worked together extensively in the past on deals, open houses,
boat shows and other marine industry
ventures,” McLeod said in a statement.

1987. In 1998, he took on the responsibility of global yacht marketing and
technical director, looking after product development in England, New
Zealand and the U.S. In this role, he

Steve Schultz, a marine industry
leader and Interlux veteran of 29
years, announced his retirement.
Schultz has been executive vice president of Yacht Coatings North America
since 2002. He started his career in
1980 as Interlux marketing manager
and in 1984 became general manager
Zodiac of North America hired retired Navy Cmdr. Steve Seigel to
lead its military and professional business unit.
Seigel’s Navy career includes both enlisted and commissioned service with
multiple SEAL and underwater demoli-
tion teams. He later was assigned to the
U.S. Special Operations Command’s acquisition and logistics directorate, after
completing the Defense Systems Management College. As program manager,
Seigel established the Combatant Craft
Program Management Office, which
combined three programs under
one management.
“The Homeland Security and Homeland Defense organizations, as well as
the Department of Defense, use Zodiac
boats to complete critical missions and
tasking,” Seigel said in a statement. “The
opportunity to join the sales and manufacturing team supporting our military,
state and municipal first responders is
an important responsibility.”
After retiring in 1998 from active
duty in the Navy, Seigel’s industry experience included program management, business development and director positions.
