NEW TO THE PIPELINE
The CoolBreeze system blows
chilled air through high-velocity
directional jets aimed at people
at the helm station, in the cockpit or other topside locations.
Rising temperatures may force
passengers into the air-conditioned saloon or cabin. But they
can now stay on deck and continue fishing, lounging or sunbathing, according to the
company. CoolBreeze includes a compressor, electrical box with temperature control unit, two high-velocity blowers and directional jet diffusers. The company uses
small-diameter PVC piping to keep the system unobtrusive. Only the diffusers are visible. “We designed this system to meet the special request of Viking Yachts, who
wanted a cost-effective and efficient way to cool people when enjoying a boat’s outdoor areas on hot days,” says Frank Marciano, president of Dometic Corp.’s environmental division. “This was a major engineering challenge since it is impractical to use
traditional air-conditioning techniques in an outdoor area.” CoolBreeze’s two-stage
automatic operation is based on two user-defined set points. When the temperature
rises to the lower set point, the controller activates the blowers. The second stage activates the compressor to chill the jetted air. “We’ve used the CoolBreeze while fishing in 95-degree heat and you can really feel the strength of the air coming down on
you from the small ducts,” says Aubrey Dauterive of New Iberia, La., who recently
purchased one of the first Viking 60 Convertible yachts with the CoolBreeze system
installed. CoolBreeze is available as factory-installed OEM equipment and can be
retrofitted on existing boats as an aftermarket product. CoolBreeze uses environmentally safe R-417A refrigerant, the company says. Retail pricing ranges from $5,000 to
$10,000 depending on the application and installation. Contact: Dometic Corp.,

Sea water that enters an inboard’s exhaust system can lead to trouble — rusted valves, pitted
cylinders, even a seized engine. ABI/Precision
Lighting’s Thru-Hull Exhaust Port with Flapper is
designed to keep the water out. The port is made
of 316 stainless steel, and the replaceable nitrile
rubber flapper resists oil, fuel and other chemicals. The port fits hose fittings from 3/8 to 2-1/4
inches and weighs 3-1/4 pounds. Retail price is
$123; replacement flappers are $4.95. Contact:

The Algae-X MTC 1000-LX mobile tank cleaning system is manufactured with stainless-steel plumbing,
providing the same three-stage performance as the
standard MTC-1000 with its traditional brass plumbing. The LX model also features cam and groove (cam
lock) couplings to connect the hoses. And to prevent
spillage, the cam lock fittings cap the hoses and the
fittings on the system after the machine has been
used. The MTC 1000-LX is primarily used to clean and
restore diesel fuel, biodiesel, light oils and hydraulic
fluids operating at a rate of 900 gallons per hour. The
model is a good choice for companies using jet fuels.
“They prefer stainless-steel components because the
copper in brass can leach into the fuel,” says ALGAE-X
executive vice president Bill O’Connell. All of the Fort
Myers, Fla., company’s mobile tank cleaning systems
operate in three stages of tank cleaning. First, the MTC removes water, large particulate and tank sludge with the separator/coalescer. In the second stage, the system
reconditions the fuel as it passes through Algae-X’s patented fuel conditioner. Finally, the industrial water-block fine-filter removes dispersed and emulsified water and
filters out the last, very fine solids down to three microns. The MTC operating costs
are very low, because only in the third stage is the system using a replaceable spin-on filter element. Algae-X also custom-engineers and builds larger systems for higher
flow rates and larger tank capacities. Both the MTC 1000-LX and the MTC 1000 retail for $6,995. Contact: Algae-X, (239) 690-9589, www.algae-x.net.
